Sud Ecriture

Sud Ecriture feels like a big family; we spend a lot of time together, talking about our films and really taking part in each other’s projects. I am so grateful to be part of an atelier that groups such special talents from Africa and the Arab world.

I really appreciated the quality of the program, the kindness of the group, and the support provided by Sud Ecriture.
This experience allowed me to make progress in my work while giving me new perspectives, and I leave with energy and inspiration for the future.

Both sessions were very enriching. I learned a lot about my project, but also about the other films as the days went by (…) Thank you to Jacques for his availability and commitment to each project.

Supported by a wonderful, passionate team, Sud Ecriture is a truly beautiful human adventure that helps us to push forward with the writing of our projects.

I most appreciated the way every project, every version, and every voice was respected, while also drawing out what truly matters: the heart and complexity of our stories, which are easy to lose along the way.

The Sud Ecriture residency came at a crucial moment of my project. Everything is aimed at fostering the evolution and development of your script in the best possible conditions. Jacques has this incredible ability to adapt to each author’s style and universe. With him and all the team, ideas start to make sense in an obvious way and to flow.

I was lucky to benefit from the expertise of Jacques Fieschi, Lina Chaabane and Dora Bouchoucha. We had time go through the entire first draft of my script which led me to ask myself about the necessity of a scene, how to better characterize my protagonists, how to make the storyline and the characters’ quest more readable, how to find the right balance for the movie’s tone and how to make my point of view as an author clearer.

My story was carefully scrutinized, extended when necessary or condensed if needed. Sud Ecriture was a great opportunity for me to sharpen my reflexion by exchanging with other authors. It is a residency that I wish every young filmmaker could attend.

Going scene by scene with the mentors helped me refine my script in ways I never imagined. The time between sessions allowed me to step back, rethink my choices, and return with a stronger, more polished story. (…) I’m grateful to Dora for always keeping the emotional and traditional aspect of the story at the forefront. Grateful to Jack for maintaining the same enthusiasm through hours of script dissections (…). Grateful to Lina for her sharp eye for technical details, always made sure everything made sense.

This workshop was indeed the most life changing experience I have ever had as a creator. To have the opportunity to go through each page of my script in such intricate detail was truly a privilege. (…) Attending SUD ECRITURE was a critical, fundamental and foundational step in honing my skills as a scriptwriter for this and future projects.

From the very first session, I was struck by the subtle balance between the high artistic expectations and the benevolent attention that caracterize this workshop. The discussions with authors from diverse cultural backrounds nurtured my inspiration , while opening up new ways for me to approach my script. The critical and supportive feedback of Jacque Fieschi, Lina Chaabane and Dora Bouchoucha allowed me to turn my initial project into a much more accomplished script.
